"Capturing the Moment when the Moment Captures you. "

Why would a bride and groom choose a destination wedding?

When Alan and I did our first destination wedding it was for family in the Berkshire’s. The Berkshire’s is a country setting in Massachusetts. We went for the weekend. We covered the rehearsal and the wedding and we managed to have a great time with the family.

Since then we have traveled to Kaui, Arizona, and Annapolis Naval Academy to name a few.

***The reasons we learned for couplies choosing a destination wedding is because their families are spread out across the country.

A 3 Day Wedding gears everyone into having a great time. The couple doesn’t feel rushed and the guests are truly engaged.

Sometimes a destination wedding can cost less than a high end venue or a golf course or country club wedding.

Our wedding was set in St Thomas on the beach. We booked a cruise invited family and friends and planned for our day in St. Thomas. The cruise left from San Juan with the first stop being St. Thomas. We reached out to the St Thomas community and found a Justice of Peace, Flowers, Limo, and one of our guests was a professional Photographer. After the beach ceremony we headed to the Ritz Carlton for lunch before getting back on the cruise ship. Not counting the cost of the cruise our wedding cost us less than $2000.00

Our guests felt our wedding was an exotic stop on their vacation.

Many All Inclusive Hotels offer wedding packages. That way your guests are likely to enjoy themselves and stay on a few days. We recommend Anna’s Adventures for inquiring about a destination wedding. https://www.facebook.com/annasadventurestravel/?timeline_context_item_type=intro_card_work&timeline_context_item_source=1417731446&pnref=lhc

Booking the photographer for a destination has two options. Booking at the location, (this can be expensive), bring one from home. Some photographers will charge extra for travel and hotel. Do your research, many photographers are eager for destination wedding business and they may not up-charge as much as you would think.

Would You Enjoy a Beach Ceremony?

Weddings in the sand.  It is a pretty popular venue for couples who want to vow their love for each other in front of a breathtaking setting which can’t be outdone.  Alan and I were married on the sand 11 years ago in St. Thomas.

Our most recent wedding took us to Treasure Island Beach in Laguna Beach at the Montage Hotel & Resort for a breathtaking photo opportunity.

Madeline and Adam wanted a privte ceremonty with just a few friends on the beach.  Madline was one of those women who did’t know her own beauty.  Madeline and Adam are from Colorado and while in California wanted to have their wedding ceremony on one of California’s most beautiful beaches.

We spent a few hours with them.  They were both relaxed and clearly in love.
Alan highly recommends wedding photography on the beach.  The bride should bring flip flops and decide beforehand if she wants to get ‘wet’.  ex. “Trash the Dress”.  The time of of the ceremony should be in the ‘golden hour’.

I really enjoyed meeting Adam and Madaline such a relaxed couple who will clearly be going through life with zest and a great attitude.

A succesfull shoot places a lot of responsibility on the photographers.

Making sure the bride and groom enjoy their photoshoot is key in “Capturing the Moments”.  During Naiomi and Jeremy’s wedding we made sure they felt relaxed and enjoyed their shoot.  We were short on time but still made sure to capture the emotion and the love they felt.

Beautiful Bride

When the couple have a large wedding party “Fun” is what we supply.  You can see how much fun everyone was having…the camera never lies.

Finding a fun Unique Photograph is always appreciated by our couples.  Each couple is different and sometimes you find the shot in the moment.

Surprise Proposal, Engagement Photos at the Buccaneer Beach, Oceanside

_DSC9070

Sechrestphotos received a booking from the mother of the man who was going to propose. Michael’s mom told me she booked the session for Michael’s brother. OK we said, When and Where?

It turned out Michael and Christina had been dating for a few years. Both were established in their careers and been living in Oceanside.

Michael told us his plan was to take Christina up to the lifeguard station at Buccaneer’s Beach where they had their first kiss.

We would be at the beach inconspicuously, and then, of course, capture the whole proposal and take some engagement photos.

The challenge for us; taking the pictures from the ground to the height of the lifeguard station. Our job is also to make the shoot part of their experience by making sure the couple is comfortable with us and we are able to capture the emotion of this INCREDIBLY ROMANTIC MOMENT in their lives.

Watch their slide show, I think we nailed it!

Kiss The Girl! How to capture the kiss.

Sean and Jessica were in their moment!

When your clients what to capture their kiss, there are a couple of key ingredients.  The “Kiss” can’t be staged.  First talk to your couple.  Get them to relax.  Make the kiss part of their conversation.  What is important to us,  is the experience of the shoot. We spend time talking to our couple and getting a relaxed atmosphere.   A relaxed couple will receive real pictures capturing their emotion.  The photographer can walk around the couple to obtain the angle and light.

Miles and Erica having their moment!

You can see in this picture, Miles and Erica are in their moment.  After proposing to Erica this picture was taken directly after his asking her.  No staging.  Alan walked around the couple.

Darryl and Melissa after raising their son to 5 years of age decided to get married!

Alan chose Black and White for this picture there were so many colors going on around us.  It was a very bright day, a very green grass, with blue skies.  The black white picture put the focus on the couple.

On March 28 Sechrest Photos was hired to photograph the wedding of Daryl and Melissa.  This wedding like all the weddings we photograph had its own unique flavor.

Daryl and Melissa had a child together who is around two and Melissa also has a 7 year son. Both the boys had a great time at the wedding with non stop energy.  When we arrived in Coronado Beach everyone was running very late, (no fault to the bride and groom) traffic into San Diego was beyond slow.

We found Melissa preparing for her day in the hotel room surrounding by sisters, cousins, children and her parents.  Daryl on the hand was in a “panic”.  Alan quickly calmed him down with his best man’s help.

The pictures in the slide show reflect a close family with lots of love.  Daryl we discovered was quite comfortable in center stage and MC’d the event with style and had the guests laughing often.

The bride had several things go wrong prior to the wedding day but handled them with style; one being she had to change her flower plan days before the wedding day.

The Coronado Beach setting is breathtaking for a wedding day and the roses were in full bloom with many colors.  There was another wedding starting and Alan had only a small amount of time to capture all the group

and family shots at the beach.

I think they came out amazing, I hope you do too.

Surprise Proposal in Rancho Palos Verdes is very Romantic!!

DSC_3033      DSC_3044DSC_3072   DSC_3100

When Miles contacted Sechrestphotos to photograph an

up-coming proposal to Erika, Alan knew I would be excited.  It seems there is never enough romance to satisfy for me to witness.  Miles and his family included his girlfriend were spending the weekend in Rancho Palos Verdes and Miles thought the romantic bluff setting would be the perfect time to propose.  Miles is 24 and is 26 years old.  They have been dating for about 1 year.  Miles told us Erika was very private and the location we had to scout out would need to be secluded.  He wanted some props there to add to the magic.  Alan suggested we have her favorite song playing and we prepared a beautiful heart in the sand enclosed with beautiful long stem roses.    The planned time would be sunset.

Alan found the spot and through texts and emailed communicated to Miles.  We arrived early and met Miles’s father who went with Alan to the spot.  Erika had no idea what was coming and the timing was delayed because she was taking time to ready for dinner with the family.

The plan was to have her song playing and as she approached the scene she would say something to Miles about the song then see the heart and Miles would be down on one knee.

It was exactly as planned (that doesn’t always happen).  Erika was in tears an Miles was very happy.  Congratulations to Miles and Erika please see some pictures at Sechrestphotos from this beautiful magical proposal.

A New Year’s Wedding with four (4) dogs in attendance, how does a photographer handle it?

When we booked the New Year’s Day wedding, and the couple told us how important it was to include their (4) four dogs, we were a little skeptical.  But Laguna Beach, a beautiful bride, and some excellent light brought it all together.

I enjoyed being present to their magical wedding day.  This couple met several years ago in Italy.  Both were on long term trips and they fell in love.  The way I understand it,  Bradly convinced Zidzielia to relocate to South Orange County after Italy. She was planning to return home to Mexico.

Brad proposed on the beach in Laguna and the plans were made.  At their wedding I could feel the love they had for each other and Alan captured it perfectly in his pictures.

Alan knew the challenges for a photographer in this small gazebo over looking the Ocean near Las Brisas. The wedding was at 4:00 PM and the sun was intense. To help the challenge he advised the best placement for the bride and groom during the ceremony. Sunset arrived just in time. The dogs (2) of which they adopted in Italy were well behaved and clearly part of this couples family.DSC_0795

Some advise for the brides:

Plan your time of day carefully. Allow enough time for pictures maybe a second location for photos Make sure your family and friends arrive on time. If possible consult your photographer for staging the ceremony for the best photo opportunities.
