This year we have photographed at several locations show in this blog.  What are some of the important things to think about?

  1. Talk to your photographer to pick out the best, Location, Location, Location.  Sechrestphotos can help you find that spot that is meaningful to you and also will provide amazing photographic memories.
  2. Alan Sechrest from Sechrestphotos suggest choosing the “golden hour” as you time of day,  The “golden hour” provides the most flattering light for romance.
  3. When photographing at the beach, we suggest cache pants for the man with a white shirt or faded jeans.  The women in a solid color such as pastels or white.  Your attire will impact your pictures.
  4. Preparing the clients for the shoot to make sure they feel comfortable.  Sechrestphotos provides a relaxed atmosphere.  We take test shots to prepare our clients.  We talk and get to know each other.  Our ‘laid back’ approach allows us to capture the real emotions and moments that our clients desire.

Delta Collins, 90, has been everything from a WWII nurse to a teacher, contractor, accountant, businesswoman, and even did some work for the FBI in Russia.

When Sophia hired Sechrestphotos to photography Delta’s birthday party we didn’t realize what an amazing women were were going to meet.

At 90 years old, Delta has been to 102 countries and even shipped 300 gifts this year to friends she has met over the years in those countries including places like Nepal and Kenya.

Delta’s house in Carlsbad is filled with artifacts from her travels and takes her two hours to give a musuem quality tour of her home.

Delta’s gracious personality and life experience were apparent at the start of our shoot.  Over 150 people came to the “The Green Dragon Museum, where Delta’s party was held; as they approached her to say hello and capture a picture with her, we could see the genuine affection, love, and respect.DSC02189

Delta’s beauty at 90 years old was resplendent.  We provided pictures at the event for her guests to take  away with them as mementos,  _DSC8186

We have printed pictures at events before but never had I seen a clamor to make sure they had their picture taken with Delta and to also take home the proof of their friendship or association.

Kiss The Girl! How to capture the kiss.

Sean and Jessica were in their moment!

When your clients what to capture their kiss, there are a couple of key ingredients.  The “Kiss” can’t be staged.  First talk to your couple.  Get them to relax.  Make the kiss part of their conversation.  What is important to us,  is the experience of the shoot. We spend time talking to our couple and getting a relaxed atmosphere.   A relaxed couple will receive real pictures capturing their emotion.  The photographer can walk around the couple to obtain the angle and light.

Miles and Erica having their moment!

You can see in this picture, Miles and Erica are in their moment.  After proposing to Erica this picture was taken directly after his asking her.  No staging.  Alan walked around the couple.

Darryl and Melissa after raising their son to 5 years of age decided to get married!

Alan chose Black and White for this picture there were so many colors going on around us.  It was a very bright day, a very green grass, with blue skies.  The black white picture put the focus on the couple.

Timing is everything! Perfect proposal pictures.

As I get more experienced in photography, I learned that “light” is everything. With flashes and experience, photographers, can imitate natural light, but nothing is more satisfying than the natural light when nature is in your corner.

When Sean planned his proposal to Jessica, he requested Alan be there for sunset. Sean and Jessica are from Arizona and Carlsbad, CA was to host his proposal. The weather had been cloudy for several days and we thought it was going to be a cloudy evening. Clouds can provide nice light but hide the beautiful display a bright sun can provide.

That night the strip of beach _DSC7518_DSC7516was not crowded and nature gave way to a spectacular sky. Jessica said yes, and Sean was a very happy man. The pictures came out beautiful and the happiness and love is written clearly on their faces. Please enjoy the slide show Alan created.
