Why would a bride and groom choose a destination wedding?

When Alan and I did our first destination wedding it was for family in the Berkshire’s. The Berkshire’s is a country setting in Massachusetts. We went for the weekend. We covered the rehearsal and the wedding and we managed to have a great time with the family.

Since then we have traveled to Kaui, Arizona, and Annapolis Naval Academy to name a few.

***The reasons we learned for couplies choosing a destination wedding is because their families are spread out across the country.

A 3 Day Wedding gears everyone into having a great time. The couple doesn’t feel rushed and the guests are truly engaged.

Sometimes a destination wedding can cost less than a high end venue or a golf course or country club wedding.

Our wedding was set in St Thomas on the beach. We booked a cruise invited family and friends and planned for our day in St. Thomas. The cruise left from San Juan with the first stop being St. Thomas. We reached out to the St Thomas community and found a Justice of Peace, Flowers, Limo, and one of our guests was a professional Photographer. After the beach ceremony we headed to the Ritz Carlton for lunch before getting back on the cruise ship. Not counting the cost of the cruise our wedding cost us less than $2000.00

Our guests felt our wedding was an exotic stop on their vacation.

Many All Inclusive Hotels offer wedding packages. That way your guests are likely to enjoy themselves and stay on a few days. We recommend Anna’s Adventures for inquiring about a destination wedding. https://www.facebook.com/annasadventurestravel/?timeline_context_item_type=intro_card_work&timeline_context_item_source=1417731446&pnref=lhc

Booking the photographer for a destination has two options. Booking at the location, (this can be expensive), bring one from home. Some photographers will charge extra for travel and hotel. Do your research, many photographers are eager for destination wedding business and they may not up-charge as much as you would think.

Surprise Proposal, Engagement Photos at the Buccaneer Beach, Oceanside

_DSC9070

Sechrestphotos received a booking from the mother of the man who was going to propose. Michael’s mom told me she booked the session for Michael’s brother. OK we said, When and Where?

It turned out Michael and Christina had been dating for a few years. Both were established in their careers and been living in Oceanside.

Michael told us his plan was to take Christina up to the lifeguard station at Buccaneer’s Beach where they had their first kiss.

We would be at the beach inconspicuously, and then, of course, capture the whole proposal and take some engagement photos.

The challenge for us; taking the pictures from the ground to the height of the lifeguard station. Our job is also to make the shoot part of their experience by making sure the couple is comfortable with us and we are able to capture the emotion of this INCREDIBLY ROMANTIC MOMENT in their lives.

Timing is everything! Perfect proposal pictures.

As I get more experienced in photography, I learned that “light” is everything. With flashes and experience, photographers, can imitate natural light, but nothing is more satisfying than the natural light when nature is in your corner.

When Sean planned his proposal to Jessica, he requested Alan be there for sunset. Sean and Jessica are from Arizona and Carlsbad, CA was to host his proposal. The weather had been cloudy for several days and we thought it was going to be a cloudy evening. Clouds can provide nice light but hide the beautiful display a bright sun can provide.

That night the strip of beach _DSC7518_DSC7516was not crowded and nature gave way to a spectacular sky. Jessica said yes, and Sean was a very happy man. The pictures came out beautiful and the happiness and love is written clearly on their faces. Please enjoy the slide show Alan created.

Wedding Stylist and Second Shooter

_DSC7519When I married Alan, I never thought I would start a career as a photographer’s assistant and then a wedding stylist and second shooter.

WOW it is a lot for me to think about.  I’ve taken some live classes and read some books but the real learning comes in the form of, “on the job training”.

We photographed a surprise proposal last weekend on the beach in Carlsbad.

This photo came about by doing a walk through of the site and finding a special spot to capture their moment.

This couple had a beautiful night to get engaged and the light is just what Alan hoped for.  Alan is still working on the final edits and will be providing the couple with an amazing slide show with music.  Stayed tuned!

Surprise Proposal in Rancho Palos Verdes is very Romantic!!

DSC_3033      DSC_3044DSC_3072   DSC_3100

When Miles contacted Sechrestphotos to photograph an

up-coming proposal to Erika, Alan knew I would be excited.  It seems there is never enough romance to satisfy for me to witness.  Miles and his family included his girlfriend were spending the weekend in Rancho Palos Verdes and Miles thought the romantic bluff setting would be the perfect time to propose.  Miles is 24 and is 26 years old.  They have been dating for about 1 year.  Miles told us Erika was very private and the location we had to scout out would need to be secluded.  He wanted some props there to add to the magic.  Alan suggested we have her favorite song playing and we prepared a beautiful heart in the sand enclosed with beautiful long stem roses.    The planned time would be sunset.

Alan found the spot and through texts and emailed communicated to Miles.  We arrived early and met Miles’s father who went with Alan to the spot.  Erika had no idea what was coming and the timing was delayed because she was taking time to ready for dinner with the family.

The plan was to have her song playing and as she approached the scene she would say something to Miles about the song then see the heart and Miles would be down on one knee.

It was exactly as planned (that doesn’t always happen).  Erika was in tears an Miles was very happy.  Congratulations to Miles and Erika please see some pictures at Sechrestphotos from this beautiful magical proposal.

Proposals! There are not just for men anymore. The season of romance is here!

DSC_8977DSC_9727required=’1’/][/contact-form]      I have found working in photography, the person (not necessarily a male) who is doing the proposing wants to capture the moment. We recently captured and witnessed a magical proposal. Below is the story as well as some important tips for any would be proposer.

Tips for the proposer:

1. Choose your location and time of day carefully. Consult with your photographer.

2. Depending on your plan coordinate carefully allowing for some lost time.

3. Choose pieces of the proposal that is unique to your relationship; music, writings, location, witnesses.

In my recent proposal job, Angel who had been dating Neil for several years decided she wanted to propose. I am starting to see a change, it is not uncommon for women to ask men to marry them.  Angel had planned a dating anniversary celebration at a hotel in Newport Beach, which she knew would have lots of photo opportunities.  After hiring my services we discussed the details of her proposal. Alan encourage a particular location and time of day, The photographer can recommend not demand, after all it is not our day. Alan and I even suggest clothing and shoes that work with the scenery and event. Unfortunately, Angel had some hicups. Because of their love for each other you would never be able to tell from the pictures. Angel planned to arrive at the hotel and be standing under the gazebo shortly before the airplane, dragging the sign, Neil and Angel = € – Will you marry me? She wanted to have ring in pocket and an amazing sky as their background. We are sharing some  highlights of her proposal. Below are some hiccups she overcame.

    • getting lost, she wasn’t from the area, allow extra time
    • spelling error in her sign, thank goodness for photoshop
    • the engagement ring wasn’t ready in time, the jewelry store provided a temporary

Romance is alive in today’s youth!

I had the pleasure to participate in the proposal by our client, to his beautiful girlfriend this weekend past.

Brandon had planned this romantic moment leaving out no details.

First he spent time scouting out the most beautiful beaches and landed on Crystal Cove in Laguna Beach.

He went through his thought process and planned to have Sarah’s BF, Katie invite Sarah to brunch with a brisk walk on the beach first (of course it would be Crystal Cove), such a nice rouse.

Brandon invited his family to attend and drive him to the location (this would make certain) Sarah wouldn’t recognize his vehicle. Mom and Sis gladly agreed to attend and witness the magical proposal.

Brandon made sure there was clear communication between himself and Katie. Katie would text Brandon when they were close and again when they started down the stairs.

Brandon not wanting to leave any stone unturned, hired Sechresphotos to capture this romantic moment forever on film.

We met Brandon an hour before Sarah was to arrive. We talked about angles and light and where to best position him on the beach. We worked closely together to find the perfect spot to produce the magical photographs which would can capture this memory.

Brandon told us he had his words planned but he was very nervous. He wanted to make a large heart in the sand and fill it would rose pedals he had recently collected.

Once the heart was completed we all helped him find shells and he wrote the words “Marry Me” with the shells in the sand next to the heart.

All of this may sounds wonderful like a script from a movie. There is a big difference. The real emotion and love shown by Brandon and Sarah was heartfelt and joyful unmatched by fiction.

Tears filled my eyes as the scene played out. I feel truly lucky to witness their proposal.
